Morning Sickness – husband to the rescue?

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Chris has been having morning sickness, something fierce. Well, to call it “morning” sickness really downplays the effect it is having on her… “day/night ’somebody shoot me sickness’” is closer.
Sunday she called me as I was coming home from work, “Can you stop by the Target on your way home and look for some of those Altiod Ginger mints? If they don’t have it, I don’t care… bring home a friggin ginger root, if it will make me feel better!!!”

So I stop by the “tar jay” (I can’t spell in English, much less French) and scour EVERY checkout counter for the little buggars. Nothing. I search the candy aisle. Nothing. I search the Tea section. Nothing. So, Wally-world was the next hike.

At Walmart, I repeat the cashiere-death-threat-look-inducing lane hopping, looking for the golden Altiods Ginger mints… Nothing. Candy aisle. Nothing. Fresh produce… SCORE! fresh ginger root. Tea aisle… SCORE! a tea that had ginger and spearmint and licorice root. All things I had previously heard are good for the stomach. Other item was B6, and I found that in the vitamin aisle. Headed home to the nauseous wife.
As a “theres no way they would have any” thought came to mind, I decided to stop by the corner store on the way home. Thinking, “theres no way” I went in and looked at the mint selection… SCORE!! So I bought out the rest of the case. That was only 3 boxes, so it wasn’t too expensive.

Heading home, victorious, I thought of the relief that would be forthcoming… one of these has GOT to work…

NOPE!

But she did appreciate the efforts to find her something that would help. Hope this part doesn’t last long.

Turkey Days

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Yea, you can’t have just one when you are trying to have one with each of your families. One family can’t do dinner, one can’t do lunch… One family can’t be there because they are seeing out of state family… It all just kinda runs together anyway.

We had actual Thanksgiving day lunch at Chris’s brother’s house with her mom, his wife, and her mom too. After a big meal, we went to go see the lakefront property that Jeff and Tracy are buying/bought *(depending on the time you read this). It looks like it will need some work, afterwards it will be one of those really neat places when they are done.

Chris wasn’t feeling well, so I went solo to my parrent’s house. Normally this time is spent preparing the bird, but mom got turkey breast. I didn’t ask, or I would have known that she didn’t get cooked turkey breast so I could have brined it too. So, I spent the time dissecting a laptop that I am going to turn into a electronic picture frame.

Chris woke me up about 10, and was feeling a particularly strong bout of morning sickness. :(

Lunch was good, and we sat down afterwards, bellies full, and watched “The Davinci Code” I think i fell asleep a few times.

Chris never really got over the sickness… Poor thing…

It was nice to see everyone. Soon we will do the “friend’s thanksgiving” if we can all plan it ;-)

Ooooohhh…. Pretty!

We got a camera Thursday. A DSLR camera. I really like the point and shoot camera’s we have had, but there were things I wanted to do that it just wasn’t capable of. After consulting the family shutter bugs, and the guy that took the pictures at our wedding (the one that took many of the shots the people we paid to do so got, if not better), and they all pointed to the Cannon Rebel XTi. So I got one. Its nice. The default lens is ok. I think I will outgrow it pretty fast, especially when I start learning what all the F stops, and aperatures, and depth-of-field thingys mean, other than the way they look. So if you are looking for something for me for Christmas…. :-D

The news

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Well, everyone, it finally happened. Were Pregnant.

We found out Sunday November 5th. That was the first test. That Monday, a second test confirmed it.

Chris woke up with an instant cold. She used to work with a girl (she was replacing) that found out that way. So Sunday night when I got home, she pounced me “I think we need to take a test!”

So, we did. Result? 2 lines. (gulp!)

We just sat there on the couch, looking at each other in that “Ok… What now?” way for the entire night.

We are scheduled for some more tests at a doctor, soon. Look for posts from her (Chris) soon as she learns how to use this thing…
